WHILE YOU WAIT!

Few months ago, I wrote about my suicide story and my inability to get admission after a very long time.

Well, I’m here to say that I’ve gotten the admission I’ve been looking for. I’m grateful to God, and thanks to everyone who stood by me during those years of waiting.

This article is to encourage every University aspirants, and to advise you on what to do while you await admission. I’m going to share from my personal story, and I hope you garner wisdom from it.

We live in a country and a society where you feel half of your life is gone if you’re not in school. You lose friends in the process. Sometimes, the confidence and believe you have in yourself will begin to wane. The pressure and desperation become heart-wrenching. In the long run, it looks like there’s no advantage of not getting admission early, but the truth is that we’re blinded by what we want that we neglect the good side of the bad that we see or are experiencing.

I left school in 2015, and I stayed at home for good 6 years. The first 3 years of my admission process was very hot. The remaining 3 years was quite easy, and I wasn’t really bothered about school again.
While I was home awaiting admission, I tried a lot of things, but one of the things I did most was stay indoor, and all I was doing was reading, writing, praying, surfing the internet, and sleeping. I would read and read. I borrowed books from people, I will read and return it back to them.

Apart from reading, I worked as a teacher, secretary, and a sales representative. At some point, I was confused about what I wanted to do with my life.

After 3 years of waiting, I just knew I needed to do something with my life and God in His mercies granted me direction. I unconsciously asked myself one question after a long period of confusion and dissatisfaction with life.

WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH YOUR LIFE IF THERE WAS NO SCHOOL?

This question above was my driving force. I knew deep down that I needed to get going with life and just leave school on one side, thou I did not stop applying. I kept applying regardless of how I felt.

It was that question that led me to where I am today. Late 2018, I got in contact with Alhamin through my younger sister, who introduced me to content writing, and I started content writing in January 2019, and the day I started was the day I started making money. And that was how I found something to do with my life. And if there’s no school, what I am doing now is what I will do with my life.

I am directing the same question to you now, if there was nothing called school, what would you have done with your life?

I want to tell you that the university degree does not define you. You’re not smaller because you’re at home, and those in school are not bigger because they’re in school. School is very important, but it does not in any way define you.

While you wait, can you do something about what you want to study? For instance, if you want to be an engineer, and that’s what you chose to study, you can go apply to those in those fields and work with them pending the time admission comes.

In case you’re like me who didn’t know what to study, the question to ask yourself is, apart from school, what interest me?

There are a lot of skills out there to learn that will help you make money. If you can answer major questions that eventually leads to purpose, then the headache for school will automatically decrease.

I got into writing for people and some other important thing and somehow, I forgot that school existed at some point. From content writing, I dived into social media management, and from that, I started transcription. And today, you have THE SOCIAL MEDIA PROPHET.

You, too, can make something very tangible with your life. And at the end of the day, school will just be a bonus for you.

I made some mistakes, and I will quickly share them with you.

1. I was quiet about my admission process. I wasn’t talking to anybody.

2. I kept choosing a school over and over again. I never tried other option.

3. I lied that I was in school. You should never do that.

These are the 3 major mistakes I made, and it’s my advice to you not to do such. Don’t be secretive about your admission issue. Talk to people that can be of help.

Avoid choosing a school over and over again. There are other great schools in Nigeria that are willing to accept you. Be open-minded and try other options.

Never tell a lie to prove a point. You don’t need it, and it’s not necessary. I kept using one lie to cover up another. It was disheartening and disturbing at some point, and I had no other option than to stop.

There’s more to life than school. How beautiful it is to find purpose before you get into school.

There are times that the reality of all that you’re going through will knock you hard, and those times you feel there’s nothing left of you. Take it to God in prayers, talk to friends that can encourage, and encourage yourself in the Lord as David did.

Life at home is not bad, build your self, take personal development serious, take your walk with God serious, read as much as you can, invest in knowledge, build quality relationships, have fun, try out many things and above all, never lose your joy.

There’s more to life than school. I am now in school and I miss those times I had to myself, those times I read books apart from school books, and many other interesting things I did alone.

Finally, I ask you again, WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH YOUR LIFE IF THERE WAS NO SCHOOL?

I wish you all the best as you find answers.

Cheers!
