Dear Reader, writing this article meant a lot to me, and your support would mean even more. Medium allows you to give up to 50 claps for an article, so if this resonated with you, please don’t hesitate to give it all 50. Thank you so much for being here and for cheering me on!

Ever wondered why people spend hours scrolling through Instagram and TikTok but can’t sit through a long article?

It’s very simple ; our brains love visuals.

Studies shows that the human brain processes images 60,000 times faster than text.

Basically, if your content is just words, you might be losing people before they even get the point.

Think About It For a Second...

Imagine you’re scrolling through LinkedIn after a long day. You see two posts:

  • A long paragraph about The Importance of Networking.

And

  • A funny, well-designed infographic showing the types of people you meet at networking events.

Which one are you stopping to read?

I think I know your answer. Exactly! The infographic.

Why Pictures and Videos Work Better

If you want people to like, share, and actually read your posts, visuals are the way to go. Here’s why:

  • People are lazy: Reading a block of text feels like work. But a simple, engaging image? Quite easy.
  • We remember what we see: Have you ever forgotten someone’s name but remembered their face? That’s how visuals work. People remember 80% of what they see, but only 20% of what they read.
  • Videos and images boost engagement: Posts with visuals get 650% more engagement than plain text posts. That’s a LOT more likes and comments.
  • They create emotions: A well-placed meme, a powerful video, or a simple infographic can make people laugh, think, or feel inspired in seconds.

How to Make Your Content More Fun (and Less Boring)

  1. Use memes and GIFs (when appropriate): If it fits your brand, throw in a meme. Everyone loves a good laugh.
  2. Keep it clean and simple. Avoid cluttered designs. Make your visuals easy to understand in 3 seconds or less.
  3. Use videos whenever possible. Short clips, explainer videos, and behind-the-scenes content work great.
  4. Try infographics: Got a lot of data? Turn it into an eye-catching infographic instead of a boring list.

5. Be consistent with your style: Use brand colors and fonts so people recognize your posts instantly.

The bottom line is; if you want people’s attention, show it, don’t just tell it.

The world is moving fast, and people don’t have time to read long, boring posts.

If you want to stand out, make your content visually appealing.

The next time you’re posting something, ask yourself: Would I stop to look at this?

If not, it’s time to add a picture, a video, or at least a fun emoji.
