My First Day at School in 2025

Dear Reader, writing this article meant a lot to me, and your support would mean even more. Medium allows you to give up to 50 claps for an article, so if this resonated with you, please don’t hesitate to give it all 50. Thank you so much for being here and for cheering me on!

It all started with my so-called “productive” night. I stayed up working on jobs until almost 3 am. Sleep? Who needs it when you have bills to pay, right?

But life doesn’t care about your hustle, and my alarm woke me up at 5 am sharp. I put it off and turned to sleep back, but by 5:30 am, it was ringing again. This time, I had to face reality. I needed to stand up.

Still, I couldn’t just jump out of bed. I lay there, thinking about my life, before finally dragging myself up at 6:20 am.

I said a short prayer, picked up my phone to scroll through some things, and then forced myself to start my morning routine. I cleaned my room, washed my plates, and boiled water for my bath.

Now, taking my drugs means I can’t leave the house on an empty stomach, so I made cornflakes. I also prepared tea to take along to class because, let’s face it, survival is key. By the time I was ready to leave, it was already 9 am.

Before stepping out, I prayed to God for a free ride to school. Transport fare these days is not smiling. I spend #1400 on school every day.

As I walked through the quarters, I ran into Mrs. Ajayi. We greeted, and I promised to see her later in the evening. That’s when my prayer was answered; the woman she was with was heading to my school. Free ride secured!

On the way, we stopped at a gas station near my school. They were selling gas for ₦1k per kg! Ah! That’s a rare blessing in this economy. I made a mental note to refill my cylinder there soon. They dropped me at the school roundabout, and I began the trek to my class.

Now, here’s where things got interesting. While walking, I ran into an SUG member. The guy decided to lecture me about how using earphones on campus is wrong.

Excuse me, we’re adults! I don’t even know why I was so annoyed, but I just kept it cool and moved on.

When I finally got to class, the lecturer was already in. I sneaked in quietly and found a seat. To be honest, my brain wasn’t in class. I didn’t understand a single thing the first two lecturers taught.

So, I decided to make the most of my time by summarizing my notes. I managed to finish summarizing two notes and wrote part of my EED note.

Speaking of EED, let me rant a bit. Our lecturer gave us over sixty pages of notes to write. Sixty! Who does that in this day and age? Why can’t we just buy the handouts? I honestly think it’s a special kind of wickedness.

Anyway, the GNS lecturer came in later, looked around, and said he wouldn’t teach because we were too few. He took attendance and left. Just like that. So, I packed my things and decided to visit my project supervisor, Dr. Tosho.

Now, Dr. Tosho’s office is my happy place. It has Wi-Fi, and I already know the password. I sat there like the VIP that I am, downloading as many videos as I could. Honestly, at that moment, I felt like part of the staff.

I had to leave Dr. Tosho’s office on time because my stomach was paining me. Another ulcer crisis was already warming up. At some point, I could not stand straight. I got to the school gate, bought food, and rushed home.

When I got home, I refused to let the day waste. I ate, handled some personal stuff, and made sure I ended the day on a productive note.

Looking back, the day was chaotic but somehow fun. It was full of little blessings and funny moments. That’s the beauty of life: you never really know how things will turn out, but you just keep moving. Thank God for grace!

Dear Lord,

I just want to thank You for today. You heard my prayer for a free ride, and You answered in such a wonderful way. Thank You for using Mrs. Ajayi and her friend to bless me. I’m sincerely grateful for Your provision, care, and the reminder that You are always looking out for me.

I also want to thank You in advance for all the help and provisions You will continue to send my way. I trust that You’ll guide me, open doors, and meet all my needs, both seen and unseen. Thank You for always being my source of strength and support. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Let me quickly visit Mrs. Ajayi before I forget.
