3 MISTAKES I MADE WHILE JUGGLING SCHOOL AND WORK TOGETHER.
I believe that as we journey through life, we learn and we do not just learn from ourselves alone, we learn from others. In life, try not to learn from yourself alone, learn from others too. You will go faster.
Getting into school was something I prayed for, but then, I wasn’t prepared for doing both work and school together and obviously, it landed me in trouble. A junk part of me knew that it wasn’t going to be easy, but then, I was willing to try the unknown.
I got into school and the experience started. It was a bittersweet experience because I got really tired at some point and stuffs that made me got tired were the mistakes that I made. I’ve learnt from them and I hope you will.
1. I focused more on work than I did with school.
I got a transcribing gig in ND 1 second semester and trust me, it was a huge money for me then and as the passionate person that I can be, I focused so much on it that I missed classes for weeks. Thank God for Barakat that attended classes and helped me with attendance and what was taught in class.
I did not balance things well and in the bid to make sure that I deliver my work on time, I stayed away from classes. The consequences was that I did not understand most of what I wrote during exam and I was times 4 stressed because I started reading under pressure.
2. I forgot how to rest.
In the bid to get things straight with work and school, I did not rest as I ought to and it affected me because I broke down after awhile and I was advised by the doctor to be on bed rest for a period of time.
Let me share my routine with you.
I leave home before 8am to get to class early and to also get a space to seat. Classes ends by 12pm, 2pm, or 4pm. Afterwards, I go to the library and stay there till 7pm. I get back home by 7:30pm or to 8. I start preparing what to eat. Afterwards, I get to do my assignments and I get back to work. I work till late in the midnight.
This was my routine and it was like that for months till I broke down eventually.
Take your health serious. Na person we dey alright dey go school.
3. My goals were not SMART enough.
This landed me in trouble because I did less than expected and I was very angry with myself. Because of the ambiguousness of my goals, I got overwhelmed and I ended up doing so little. I could have broken them into simpler task, but no, I was doing so much and I got overwhelmed and just broke down.
All of these mistakes did a lot to me and trust me, I wouldn't want you to face same.
So, these are the mistakes I made and I'm glad that I have made changes and getting things straight.
This is a journey for me and as I proceed, there’s every tendency that I’ll fall, but then, I will also rise, learn and move on. It’s going to be the same for you too, but then, you gat to move.
